MFL MarMac band raising funds for new uniforms
MONONA – After several years with the same look, the MFL MarMac High School band is beginning to raise funds for new marching band uniforms.
“The marching band is the most public platform for any band program to be able to showcase their talents and hard work in front of the entire community. In order to make the most out of the publicity, the band has to stand out auditorily and also visually,” second-year director Derek Friederichs said.
“Obtaining new uniforms would give the MFL MarMac Band Program a fresh look that will attract more community and student involvement,” he said. “It would give our band a more authentic presentation and it would allow the program to represent MFL MarMac with the utmost quality and sincerity.”
The estimated cost per uniform is expected to be between $300 and $450. Friederichs said the band needs about 80 uniforms, making the total cost between $24,000 and $36,000.
Friederichs said the band has partnered with Stanbury Uniforms, Inc. to create a concept design of what a new uniform could look like. Though the concept has yet to be completed, he said it will be soon.
Fundraising efforts to this point have included the sale of band-branded apparel. Friederichs said the band could also host a trivia night, partner with business to sell goods or do a donation drive.
“None of those are set in stone yet, but they are a start of what we have been thinking about,” he said.
