School Board approves 2019-20 budget, calendar

MONONA — The MFL MarMac Community School District Board of Directors approved both its 2019-20 calendar and budget during a regular meeting last Monday at the high school.

The calendar features an Aug. 23 first day of school and a return from the holiday break on Jan. 2. Superintendent Dr. Dale Crozier said next year’s holiday break will be a little longer than this year’s and that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving will be a day off from school next year. After a series of discussions about when the district should have its professional development time, the decision was made to keep things as they had been in the past with early-outs most Wednesdays of the school year.

“There was a lot of collaboration – more collaboration than, really, I’ve had in a lot of years,” Crozier said. “We went in a big circle but we’re kind of back at the beginning of the circle mostly.”

Building principals, who had been in favor of keeping professional development time the way it is, reiterated that opinion during Monday’s meeting.

“We think that there’s better continuity if we’re able to do what we do on a weekly basis,” High School Principal Larry Meyer said.
