U.S. based company helps women all over the world

The monthly Coffee House, held in the Helwig Library, showcased handmade items from all over the world crafted by women.

The presenter, Kasey Ruff, was a sales representative from the company Trades of Hope. The company was founded in 2010 with the goal of helping women and other impoverished people in the U.S. and across the world by giving them the tools to create their own items.

The concept was started by two of mother-daughter pairs in Florida. They set out to better the lives of women by giving them an opportunity to craft and create items that would be sold in the U.S.  and be paid for their work.

The program works like this: women in need are given 50 percent of their wage up front, so they can gather supplies and then get paid the additional 50 percent once the product is made. The women will get the full wage, regardless of if the product sells at all. The money that is received is meant to help women feed, clothe and educate themselves and their children.
