Supervisors approve social host, utility ordinances

ELKADER — The Clayton County Board of Supervisors last week approved four different ordinances, including an ordinance related to social host laws.

The new ordinance provides legal penalties to those knowingly providing alcohol or controlled substances to those underage at social gatherings. It requires hosts of events to take “all reasonable steps to prevent alcohol or controlled substances from being possessed or consumed by underage persons on the premises.

Mary French, program director at Substance Abuse Services for Clayton County, said her organization has been working to get such an ordinance passed in the county for a long time. She said the state has a social host law but that they wanted a more detailed law.
