Proposed energy corridor will run through northern Clayton County

MONONA — A proposed energy transmission line would run through northern Clayton County, including the cities of Luana, Monona, Marquette and McGregor.

If approved, the Soo Green Transmission Line will run from Mason City to Plano, Ill (southwest of Chicago) along the Canadian Pacific Railway. The 2,100 megawatt, 525 kilovolt line will run underground, following railroad co-location model that was used in building America’s fiber-optic system.

“The successful deployment of this HVDC technology along railroads will create a market segment that doesn’t exist today,” said Trey Ward, CEO of Direct Connect Development Company (DC DevCo), which is developing the project. “DC DevCo believes that the SOO Green project will set the standard regarding how transmission lines are developed and constructed in the U.S.”
