Monona receives CCDG Community Betterment Award

VOLGA — The City of Monona has taken several steps forward over the past year with new businesses and expanding community services. That progress was honored last Tuesday as the City received the Clayton County Development Group (CCDG) Community Betterment Award at the annual CCDG Meeting in the Volga City Opera House.

Monona native and CCDG Board Member Nathan Trappe presented the award to Mayor Marty Martinson, noting the city’s restoration of the City Park Bandstand, its Butterfly Trail extension and other improvements. Martinson talked about business expansion, including the recently opened Casey’s General Store and Dollar General Store and upcoming EpicWear opening as well as other improvements at City Park, improved downtown lighting and the recently-completed annexation of property on the city’s southeast side.

“All of this is easy to say but a lot of work,” Martinson said. “It all started back when a group of citizens got together through many, many meetings.”
