Marquette winery earns top honors at State Fair

   MARQUETTE — Eagles Landing Winery, Marquette, was again honored as one of Iowa’s top wine makers last week, as two of its wines were among five to receive double-gold recognition in the Iowa State Fair Commercial Wine competition.

   Volga Lake Blush, a semi-sweet Catawba grape wine, was named Best of Show in the “Other” category and received double gold recognition while Sweet Ruby, a sweet wine made with Concord grapes, was named double-gold and nominated for Best of Show recognition in its class.

   Only five of the 144 wines entered in the competition were named double-gold, with Eagles Landing the only winery to have more than one of its wines receive the recognition.
