Luana Council approves first reading of fireworks ban Exception made for July 4

LUANA — Luana residents could soon have restrictions as to when they can sell and set off fireworks.

At the August 2 meeting of the Luana City Council, Councilman Todd Olson motioned to approve first reading of Ordinance 2018-2, amending the city’s ordinance regarding fireworks.

The new ordinance, Article 3.4.3 Fireworks, states that “It shall be unlawful for any person to offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail or use or explode any fireworks.  However, this prohibition on the private, non-commercial use of fireworks, on privately owned property, with the property owners consent, shall be suspended from 12:01 A.M. till 11:59 P.M. on the calendar day of July 4th of each year”.  The motion carried unanimously.
