Keehner scores 100th career win as Bulldogs dominate opening meets

If its opening two meets of the season are an indication, MFL MarMac’s wrestling team is going to be strong in duals this season. The Bulldogs scored four shutouts on their way to eight dual wins in as many tries.

The Bulldogs shut out all three of their opponents Thursday in their season-opening meet at Starmont and then had no dual closer than 28 points on their way to the championship at the Cascade Duals Friday.

Along the way, senior Garret Keehner picked up his 100th career victory. Win 99 came in the Bulldogs’ season opener against North Crawford-Seneca, Wis. while win No. 100 was a win by fall over Riceville’s Mitchell Marr. Keehner joins teammates Michael Egan, Nathan Johanningmeier and Korby Keehner in the 100-win club. The next Bulldog likely to join the club is junior Ethan Stubbs, who entered the year with 75 wins.

At Starmont, the ‘Dogs defeated North Crawford-Seneca 74-0, Riceville 75-0 and Central (Elkader) 78-0. The Bulldogs had five falls and a technical fall in their match against North Crawford-Seneca, with Hunter Miller, Dylan Corlett, Zach Howe, G. Keehner and Stubbs scoring falls and Egan a technical fall. The ‘Dogs had six falls against Riceville from Miller, Nathan Johanningmeier, G. Keehner, K. Keehner, Stubbs and freshman Nathan McGeough, and they had falls in their only two contested matches against Central from G. Keehner and Max Havlicek.
