FreedomBank makes major donation to new playground

MONONA — FreedomBank of Monona has announced the largest donation to date to a new playground that is planned for Gateway Park in Monona.

The $2,500 donation will help Monona’s Community Visioning group build a playground near the veteran’s memorial on the south side of the park, which is currently undergoing renovations.

“We are pleased to continue our tradition of supporting valuable community projects such as the addition of the playground at Gateway Park,” FreedomBank Senior Vice-President James Moritz said. “We thank the many volunteers who work to promote improving the quality of life in Monona and the surrounding area.”

Rogeta Halvorson, executive director of Monona Chamber and Economic Development, said the playground is just one piece in what is quickly becoming a go-to location in Monona.

“We want to make it a fun place for kids and family, but also a healthy place,” she said.

She said the park has never had a playground and that it is a necessary part of the park so that people have things to do there when they visit.

“This will be another excellent enhancement to Gateway Park Campground to attract more people to come to Clayton  County and Monona,” she said.
