Egan takes sixth in state wrestling tournament

DES MOINES - MFL MarMac junior Michael Egan made up for two difficult years at the state wrestling tournament last week, recording three wins on his way to a sixth-place finish in Class 1A at 138 pounds.
Bulldog coach Chet Bachman said Egan wrestled better than he ever has during a tournament that saw him defeat a pair of ranked wrestlers and lose in sudden victory to a third while becoming the highest state wrestling place winner at MFL MarMac since Nathan Howe placed sixth at 182 pounds in the 2014 tournament. Bachman said Egan did a couple of things better at State than he had all year.
“No. 1 he didn’t wrestle to look for one move,” the coach said. “He stayed in good position and then when something was there for him to do he took advantage of it. He wrestled to put points on the board on his feet, the bottom, the top …"
