Council approves purchase of new fire rescue truck

MONONA — The Monona City Council last Monday gave final approval to the Volunteer Fire Department’s proposed purchase of a new rescue truck.

Fire Chief Dave Smith said the Department had chosen a 2019 Ford F550 chassis from Maintainer Custom Bodies of Rock Rapids, Iowa. He said the department will attempt to purchase the chassis locally from Birdnow Chevrolet.

The new truck will have a four-person crew cab rather than the walk-in body that the current truck has, which will both save money and give the Department more room for storage. It will also feature a light tower and battery-powered Jaws of Life equipment.

The truck will replace a 1991 truck that has 9,800 miles of use. Smith said the Department will attempt to sell the old truck.
