Butigieg speaks to large crowd in Elkader

ELKADER — One of the surprise contenders for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination touted the need for change during a campaign stop at the Elkader Opera House last Monday.

Pete Butigieg (D, Indiana) talked about why he is running for office and touched on many of the issues that he supports during a nearly 45-minute speech before a standing room-only crowd of 425 people.

Butigieg said he felt compelled to run for president because of the feeling that the country is running out of time.

“We’re in a moment right now that will call on the very best in us  and require that we lead this moment with bolder solutions than we had before,” he said.
