Bulldog chain gang reaches state final
CEDAR FALLS — MFL MarMac had a strong representation at last weekend’s state championship football games in Cedar Falls, though it wasn’t directly on the field of play. Instead it was on the sidelines where the men who regularly mark the down-and-distance for every play for varsity games in Monona — the chain gang — did the same for both the Class 1A and 2A state championship games.
Members of the crew include Tracy Decker, Eric Dettbarn, Mark Kautman and Lary Walter.
Dettbarn, who is MFL MarMac’s long-time varsity boys’ basketball coach, said he knew an official on one of the crews through their work officiating basketball games that he’s coached in.
