Aquatic Center opening in question due to virus restrictions

MONONA — The opening date for the Monona Family Aquatic Center, and the possibly of whether the Center will open at all this summer, remain in doubt due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Monday the Monona City Council held an extensive discussion with Pool Board member Cory Pester and Pool Manager Julie Lenth regarding the issue.

City Administrator Barb Collins said the Pool Board met earlier this month and had hopes of opening the pool June 3, pending government approval. That, however, was before a part on the pool’s pump broke as it was being drained so that it could be cleaned. The city expected the pump to be delivered by the end of the week.

“Our hope is to then finish pumping it out and clean it and then we don’t want to put the water in the pool until after (May) 27,” Collins said.
