Monona Police report drop in traffic stops, slight climb in other areas

MONONA — Monona Police Chief Jo Amsden reported a drop in traffic stops and slight climbs in other areas while speaking to the Monona City Council last Monday.
Amsden presented a report that showed a 4.3 percent increase in total service calls for the department from 2016 to 2017, with 2,115 reported in ’16 and 2,210 reported in ’17.
Notably climbing in 2017 for the Monona Police were their attempt to locate calls (from five in 2016 to 33 in 2017) and both burglary and fireworks/burning issues, from three two years ago to nine last year. There was a notable drop in assaults and fights from 19 two years ago to seven last year.
Traffic stops also saw a significant dip, from 543 in 2016 to 460 last year. Among those stops last year, the Department issued 104 citations and 458 warnings. The ratio of citations per vehicle stop was similar in the two years, 1:4.4 in 2017 and 1:4.1 in 2016.
